Tululusia Waterfall stands as a majestic natural wonder situated deep within Arusha National Park, resting on the slopes of Mount Meru. Towering approximately 28 meters in height, its cascading waters create a mesmerizing spectacle. However, its grandeur comes with a cautionary note – the sheer force of the falls is so formidable that standing underneath it poses a risk, with its roaring sound dominating the surrounding ambience.
Over time, the river has sculpted its path through soft volcanic soil and stones, carving out a space akin to a cave, open on one end and facing the river on the other. Remarkably, the cave walls have become home to nesting sites for red-winged starlings, adding to the allure of the waterfall’s surroundings.
Despite the river’s modest size, the illusion of its vastness is deceiving, amplified by the impressive drop it undertakes. Visitors often hear the thunderous sound of the falls long before catching sight of it, with a small pool of water at its base, adorned with volcanic rocks and pebbles.

Getting there & Location
Reaching Tululusia Waterfall typically involves a short trek from Momela Gate, following a path shared with hikers en route to Mount Meru’s summit. This accessibility allows adventurers to incorporate a visit to the waterfall before their ascent.
As for fees, visitors are required to pay a conservation fee, along with a walking fee, with additional charges for vehicle entry permits if arriving by private vehicle.
Located deep within Arusha National Park, on the northeastern slopes of Mount Meru, Tululusia Waterfall is accessible via a short walk from Momela Gate or public campsites one and two.
To reach the waterfall, visitors must first arrive at Momela Gate, where permits are checked, and armed rangers are provided for protection and guidance during the hike. Transportation to Momella Gate is typically by vehicle, with options including rentals, private vehicles, or tours and travel services. Although public buses pass through the area from the Arusha bus terminal, it’s advisable to confirm with TANAPA regarding regulations for park access via public transport.
Exploring the waterfall entails immersing oneself in its sights and sounds, with the hike offering glimpses of diverse wildlife, including buffalo, warthogs, and giraffes, against the backdrop of the scenic landscape. While not ideal for picnics, the area adjacent to the falls provides a captivating environment teeming with floral beauty and unique plant species.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Tululusia Waterfall is outside the rainy season, typically from March to July, as heavy rainfall during these months can obscure visibility and increase water volume, potentially dampening the experience.

Day Trip to Tulusia Waterfalls
After being picked up from Arusha town by the Tranquil Kilimanjaro driver and crew, you will go to Arusha National Park to witness the breathtaking Tululusia Waterfalls. From open savannah to acacia scrublands, Afro-montane cloud and rain forest, and Afro-alpine vegetation resembling Mount Kilimanjaro, the park’s landscape spans 552 km².
