With guaranteed departure dates, it is possible to join an open group for your Kilimanjaro climb in the year 2026, 2027 and even 2028. You have to enquire about the availability of a spot with Tranquil Kilimanjaro beforehand.

Out Kilimanjaro mountain guides have top-notch ability and expertise to guide even the largest groups but we recommend set numbers of about 10-15 climbers per group for the best chance of summit success, as they can be taken care of with undivided attention. We make sure our group climbs are as relaxed and exciting as possible. What is new in 2026? For those joining our Kilimanjaro group treks for the 2026 and 2027 seasons, you should be excited as we strive to make our climbs better, more exciting, better ways of curating your itineraries, and new porter recruitments after thorough vetting processes. We have unlocked new adventures around the Kilimanjaro region, and even better, we have introduced new group tours for Kilimanjaro day hikes. Click here if you want to join our group day hikes departing each week.

Who will be your group’s mountain guides? Our lineup is as always, exciting. Here is our list of mountain guides that will be leading our group treks. Get to know them here.

Our group climbs exclusively take the greatest routes up Mount Kilimanjaro: the 9-day Northern Circuit, the 8-day Lemosho, the 7-day Rongai, and the 7-day Machame. These group climbs are planned during the ideal weather months and include acclimatisation days to boost success rates.

Kilimanjaro treks during the low season (April, May, and November) need to be communicated first before bookings as there is a high likelihood of rain, and only experienced trekkers should contemplate climbing during these months. Shira, Lemosho, or the Northern Circuit treks may be more difficult to organize due to rains that prohibit vehicle access to the trailheads. We recommend the Rongai Route and Marangu Route during this time of the year.

  • We offer private climbs for people who prefer to climb on alternative dates or routes than our group excursions.
  • A supplemental price would apply if a person preferred single room/tent accommodation; extra costs are available upon request.
  • On the Marangu Route, everyone will share the A-frame hut lodging, which has 8 dormitory-styled, bunk beds per hut.
  • Additional days on the mountain might be added for an additional fee of US$ 255 each day.
  • Except for the single-person rate, the rates indicated above are per-person sharing.
  • If Kilimanjaro National Park fees or government taxes / VAT change, all prices are subject to change without notice. Current park fees and taxes are valid through June 30, 2026, and are subject to change beginning July 1, 2027.

JANUARY – February 2026 – Group Joining Trek Dates

Climbing Kilimanjaro in January-February as a group is one of the very best times of the year. Skies are mostly clear, temperatures are warm (especially lower on the mountain), and the views of the glaciers and across to Mount Meru are spectacular. Rain is rare, nights are cold but not extreme, and the mountain is relatively quiet compared to the peak summer rush. Full-moon climbs in late January and late February are magical because the snow on Kibo lights up like a lantern. Perfect for photographers and anyone who wants warm days and crisp, dry conditions.

March – April – May – Group Trek Departure Dates

Still dry and pleasant at the beginning of the month, but towards the end of March, the long rainy season usually starts. The first half of March is excellent (clear skies, fewer crowds, slightly cooler than Jan/Feb). After about the 20th, showers become more frequent, and the trails can get muddy. If you’re flexible, early March is a hidden gem; late March is best avoided unless you don’t mind some rain and lower visibility.

April to May: No Group Treks due to the Long rainy season

The heart of the long rainy season – heavy afternoon showers almost every day, low clouds, and wet, slippery trails. We run very few climbs during these two months, mostly private treks. We do not schedule fixed group departures in April or May for safety and comfort reasons.

June: The Kilimanjaro Group Treks season begins

The rain dramatically reduces from the first week of June onward. Early June still feels fresh and green, the mountain is extremely quiet (you might have camps almost to yourself), and prices are at their lowest because it’s technically still “low season”. By mid-to-late June the weather is already very reliable – clear mornings, occasional short afternoon showers at lower elevations, and stunningly beautiful landscapes with wildflowers. An insider’s favorite time for those who want solitude and don’t mind a small chance of light rain.

July-August: Best time for Kilimanjaro Group Joining Treks

Peak season for very good reasons. Almost zero chance of rain, warm days, cold but dry nights, and panoramic views every single day. Trails are busier (especially Machame and Lemosho), but the weather is as close to guaranteed as Kilimanjaro ever gets. Full-moon summits in July and August are incredibly popular because the snowcap glows under bright moonlight and the crater is often wind-still. If you want the classic “postcard” Kilimanjaro experience with the highest success rate, this is it.

September – Early October: Also best weather for a Kilimanjaro Group joining Trek

Essentially an extension of the dry season – still excellent weather, slightly fewer people than July/August, and pleasantly warm temperatures. The landscape starts to turn golden rather than green, giving a different but equally beautiful look. Late September and the first half of October are arguably the sweet spot of the entire year: perfect weather + noticeably quieter trails than peak summer.

Mid to late October Group Climbs

Still very dry and clear, but towards the end of October, the short rains can begin (usually just afternoon showers). Most years the second half of October remains excellent; in some years, you get a few wet afternoons. A great shoulder-season choice if you want good weather and lower crowds.

NOVEMBER – DECEMBER 2026 (Short Rainy + Holiday Season)

The short rainy season. Light to moderate rain most afternoons, but mornings are usually clear, and the mountain empties out again. Prices drop, crowds disappear, and the park feels wild and untouched. If you’re on a budget and don’t mind packing good rain gear, November offers excellent value and a lush, green mountain.

December – Kilimanjaro Group Trek Dates

The short rains normally finish by mid-December. From about the 15th onward, the weather turns dry and settled again, making the Christmas and New Year climbs extremely popular. Warm days, cold summit nights, and festive atmosphere in the camps. The Christmas Day and New Year summit attempts are bucket-list experiences – clear skies, celebratory mood at Uhuru Peak at sunrise, and champagne on the roof of Africa.

These months offer better weather conditions, with lower chances of rainfall and more stable temperatures. However, it’s important to note that weather patterns can vary, and it’s recommended to consult with experienced guides or tour operators for the most up-to-date information and to choose the best time to climb based on your preferences and climbing goals.

Group Tours for Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro Group joining tours are perfect for solo travellers because climbing Kilimanjaro alone could be costly. Joining a group is the best option as you get to share costs hence it is more affordable. You will get to make new friends as a Kilimanjaro group tour consists of all types of people, from couples, friends and other solo travellers.

Why Group Joining is Best for you

There are many pros and advantages of joining a group to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. First of all you get to meet new people, share ideas and experiences with other like-minded climbers

Since you get to share some incentives and resources as a group, it becomes a cheaper Mount Kilimanjaro climb than going on a private climb. Do check the size of the group in advance.

Disadvantages of Kilimanjaro Group Tours

To be honest big group tours with strangers sometimes feels like you are not getting enough alone time. There is no privacy if you are a couple and sometimes it tends to get noisy especially if you are joining a couple of friends while you are a solo traveller.

Grouping Up

Group joining is perfect for solo travellers and young, enthusiastic travellers like students, backpackers and travellers on a tight budget. Making the effort to group up with like-minded travellers is exciting. It is important to get to know who you will be climbing the mountain with for days that is why some climbers group up to get familiar with each other before taking up the Kilimanjaro challenge.

Once climbers group up a bond, they have the freedom to socialize freely and share ideas on how to approach the climb and lower their climbing costs as a unit.

There are many open forums and social media groups that allow travellers to engage and arrange meetups like TripAdvisor forums and Lonely Planet’s Thorn Tree forums or, Le Petit Futé, Quotatrip and Le Routard for French travellers.

As for travellers already within Tanzania, meeting up in Arusha and Moshi is a great way to gather and brainstorm your trip as a group. Such useful public places for meetups in Moshi include Kilimanjaro Wonders Hotel, Kilimanjaro Coffee Union, Haria Rooftop bar, Kindoroko Hotel etc. In Arusha you can choose to meet up in hotels, hostels like the Arusha Backpackers rooftop bar, Sable Square, Blue Heron, Via Via, Le patio, Zeze Lounge, Fifi’s restaurant and many more.

It is important to meet your group before climbing because these are the people that you will be spending between 5 to 9 days on the mountain together.

Climbing Kilimanjaro is a lifetime experience, you will make lifelong friends and you will treasure this moment for years to come, so make the best of it!.

If your guts don’t fancy someone in the group or you don’t just connect, we strongly advise you to pair with another group, it is not worth forcing it when you will not enjoy your climb. It is your trip you should be happy and you have a choice to cancel or proceed.

Contact us today to join a group for your Mount Kilimanjaro climb with Tranquil Kilimanjaro.
