Aberdares National Park
The Aberdare National Park is known for its picturesque steep wooded ravines and wide moorland. Elephants, black rhinos, leopards, spotted hyenas, olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys, buffalos, warthogs, and bushbucks are among the animals that call the park home. The Giant Forest Hog, bongo, golden cat, serval cat, African wild cat, African civet cat, and blue duiker are all rare occurrences. Picnics, river trout fishing, and moorland camping are all available to visitors. With over 250 kinds of birds in the park, including the Jackson’s Francolin, Sparrow hawks, goshawks, eagles, sunbirds, and plovers, bird watching is a pleasant experience.
The Aberdare Range
The Aberdare Range (previously the Sattima Range, Kikuyu: Nyandarua) is a 160-kilometer (100-mile) long highland mountain range north of Nairobi, Kenya, with an average elevation of 3,500 meters (11,480 ft). It runs through Nyandarua, Nyeri, Muranga, Kiambu, and Laikipia counties. The mountain range sits approximately south of the Equator in west-central Kenya, northeast of Naivasha and Gilgil. The Agikuyu people, whose land includes this forest and mountain range, call the mountain range Nyandarua. Because of the characteristic fold in its profile, Nyandarua gets its name from the Kikuyu term rwandarua, which means “dried hide.”
Aberdares Table Mountain Hike
The Table Mountain trek, like the others in the Aberdares, provides remarkable experiences, eliciting a range of feelings from amazement to worry. As part of our Aberdares Table Mountain trip, we journey along yet another gorgeous path in the Aberdares, with the promise of stunning vistas. This trip is crucial for individuals participating in the Beginner to Mt. Kenya Program since it introduces them to the more difficult Aberdare terrain and harsh weather.
The 4.5-kilometer track begins near the Kwa Matu Shopping Center and climbs steeply at first before softening into a short, peaceful journey into the moorland. The route comes to an abrupt conclusion at the pinnacle of Table Mountain, which stands at 3,792 meters above sea level.
